Under its Art and Environment programme, Fundación Canal is pleased to present from 4 February to 3 May 2026 (extended until 26 July), Arte urbano. De los orígenes a Banksy (Urban Art. From Its Origins to Banksy), an exhibition that narrates the evolution of urban art from its birth in the 1960s until becoming a fully-fledged artistic expression with the strong foundation it has today.
Curated by Patrizia Cattaneo Moresi, this is an exceptional collection of over 60 pieces by the most influential and renowned artists of the movement, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Crash, Seen, Lady Pink, Blek le Rat, Miss.Tic, Invader, RAVO, OBEY, JR, Os Gêmeos, Vhils, SUSO33, and El Xupet Negre, with special attention paid to the legendary Banksy. A varied repertoire in terms of time periods, techniques, media, and materials.
The exhibition presents a tour organised into five sections, along with a monograph devoted to Banksy, a key figure in understanding the media and symbolic dimensions of urban art in the 21st century. The conclusion proposes a debate on what can be considered urban art today, seeking to spark a critical reflection on its limits and how it depends on the social, historical, and symbolic context of its time.
