Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Not only did he explore painting, but he also stood out in sculpture and other artistic expressions, such as sketching, engraving, and collage. We now have a unique occasion to discover his sculpture work.
Matisse Metamorfosis. Esculturas y dibujos (Matisse Metamorphosis. Sculptures and drawings) explores a lesser-known facet of the French artist genius. This tour reveals his interest in studying the human figure and how his representation evolved through constant and obsessive repetition. It shows an intense, dramatic, and introspective Matisse and his journey from academicism to abstraction.
Organised by Fundación Canal in collaboration with the Matisse Museum in Nice and the Kunsthaus Zürich museum, and with the support of Manifesto Expo, this exhibition boasts 33 Matisse sculptures, drawings, lithographs, and an exceptional painting, in addition to period photographs and documents.
