We use quantum physics on a daily basis, like when we heat our food in the microwave or use our computer or smartphone. This discipline shows us the enigmatic behaviour of atoms and their minuscule parts, which also follow rules very different from what we are used to.
At this event, Sonia Fernández-Vidal, doctor in quantum physics and writer, will use an educational focus that everyone can understand to address the importance of this subject and the role of quantum principles to understand how matter and energy behave, along with our own existence and the world around us.
Sonia Fernández-Vidal is a writer and scientific communicator. She holds a doctorate in Information and Quantum Optics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where she was a professor. She has worked and collaborated as researcher at some of the most prestigious institutions, such as the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland, Los Alamos National Laboratory in the United States, and the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) in Barcelona. She is also co-founder of the technological consulting firm Gauss & Neumann.
She is author of the trilogy The Door with Three Locks, international novels for scientific education intended both for children and for grownups and translated into 14 languages, of Quantic Love, a novel set at the CERN which approaches science from a more human perspective, Breakfast with Particles, a physics educational work intended for all readers, The Universe in Your Hand, intended for boys and girls to teach them the wonders of our Cosmos, and The Door with Three Locks The Origin, a prequel to the trilogy that travels the history of physics leading to the quantum revolution.
He holds a degree in Audio-Visual Communication (2001) from the University of Salamanca. From 2016 through 2018, he was director and host of Los desayunos on TVE. He was assistant director of news on TVE, director of Canal 24 horas, director of the news website www.rtve.es, and director of the social media team for TVE’s news.
