Canal Educa celebrates 35 years of environmental education

For World Water Day, Fundación Canal is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its environmental education programme Canal Educa. This year is especially significant because we are also commemorating the 175th anniversary of Canal de Isabel II and the Fundación’s 25 years of life.

Since its creation in 1991, Canal Educa has taken a leading position in environmental education within the Community of Madrid, bringing knowledge of the comprehensive water cycle and sustainable water use to over 500,000 students and teachers, through educational activities, digital resources, and tours of Canal de Isabel II’s facilities.

To pay tribute to this work, Fundación Canal is celebrating a special event with nearly 200 students from several different schools in Madrid. This workshop combines science, creativity, and environmental awareness, with the collaboration of the CSIC’s Rap concCIENCIA project.

Three and a half decades after it began, Canal Educa continues to foster in our youth a responsible water culture, committed to sustainability, adapting its educational contents to the environmental challenges of the present and of the future.
