Canal Educa, Fundación Canal’s free, bilingual educational programme, ended the 2024-2025 school year with the record in-person participation of 55,556 students and 2,496 teachers. Over the past ten years, Canal Educa has raised awareness in over 446,000 of Madrid’s students and teachers with an educational catalogue that combines high participation in-person sessions with guided tours of Canal de Isabel II’s main integrated water management facilities.
Over 400 schools in 72 municipalities of the Community of Madrid have joined the programme this year, which fosters sustainable water use, addresses leading environmental challenges, and teaches about the professions of the future. The programme is intended for all educational levels, from Infantil to Bachillerato, and includes a specific project for Special Education.
Some of the most popular activities include the water labs (Moleculab and Chemilab), for experimenting with curricular content for subjects like Biology, Physics and Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences, and tours of Canal de Isabel II’s infrastructures, like the El Atazar reservoir, the El Bodonal DWTP in Tres Cantos, the Arroyofresno stormwater tank, the Arroyo Culebro WWTP, and the energy recovery plant in Loeches, to observe and learn about the processes that form part of the integrated water cycle on-site.
