In Uganda there\u2019s an eco-school called Kumwenya. The name reflects the spirit perfectly, as it means \u2018smile\u2019 in the Rutooro language.<\/p>\n
The school is attended by 75 children between the ages of 3 and 7 years from the nearby villages of Kimya and Kasenda, located in western Uganda, a long way from the more developed part of the country.<\/p>\n
The organisation Kelele Africa decided to launch this educational project after years working in the area, finding out about the needs of its inhabitants and running projects focusing on education, healthcare and women\u2019s empowerment.<\/p>\n
In 2015, the work of building the school was completed, thanks to the collaboration between Spanish architects, local workers and volunteers.<\/p>\n
Local teachers are receiving ongoing training so that they can implement the educational project based on a quality education using the five senses. They work on respect, equality, tolerance, hygiene, health and environmental care through music, dance, painting and the theatre.<\/p>\n
As well as the infants\u2019 eco-school, the multi-purpose premises are also used for afternoon classes in adult literacy and English, exhibitions, plays and dance workshops.<\/p>\n
